Every cycle sells a faster path: options, crypto, a friend's fund, a newsletter with a secret. The path that still works is slower than the ads.
The unfashionable list
- Spend less than you earn, on purpose.
- Own a diversified slice of productive assets.
- Do not interrupt compounding to feel clever.
- Keep a cash buffer so you are never a forced seller.
That list does not trend. It also does not require you to predict the next ten years of interest rates.
Fees are a silent tax
A 1% fee looks polite. Over decades it is a second mortgage on your future. The same is true of trading costs you never see, and of the tax bill from activity that did not need to happen.
Time in the market is not a slogan. It is the only edge most of us can actually keep.
If you want a wealth plan, start with behavior you can still respect during a boring year.
